The ignition tester V.A.G 1767 is a third-generation test instrument. Besides being able to measure such things as the engine speed, dwell angle or ratio and ignition angle, the tester also measures the duty cycle and temperature. If a cable is forgotten when the device is switched on, a message is displayed indicating to the user that there is a cable missing. Integrated into the ignition tester is a rechargeable battery and a charger. For this reason, it no longer needs to be connected to the vehicle battery. However, the ignition tester can also be operated from the 220 V/110 V mains supply. In this case, the integrated battery is recharged simultaneously and the battery charge is displayed. In addition, the display informs the user shortly before recharging is necessary. To avoid discharging the battery unnecessarily, the device switches itself off automatically if no measurement is taken for a length of time.
